Dear Member,
November has become known as the month of giving—and rightly so. It kicks off a time of year when we think about our family and friends a lot more than usual as we anticipate feasted gatherings like Thanksgiving and a myriad of diverse holidays. It's also a time to remember those who are less fortunate than us and use our servant leadership skills to make a difference.
The servant leadership theory was first introduced by Robert Greenleaf, an American sociologist and philosopher. He theorized there are four different types of leaders; among them is the “servant leader,” who understands that by enriching the lives of others, we foster more compassion for all humanity.
Volunteering is a terrific way to exercise servant leadership, especially during this time of year when food pantries across the country seek assistance with providing meals or clothing for those in need. You might also consider volunteering your time to your favorite charity. Every bit of help can make a huge difference in the lives of others.
Of course, we don't have to wait until the holidays to practice servant leadership. We should aim to show warmth and compassion all year round. As your final semester of 2021 starts to wind down, I wish you an excellent November, full of fun, festivities, and all the turkey and stuffing your heart desires!
Stay well and have a happy holiday season.
